March Catch Up

It was a good start to the month, Roxie had her first sock of March.

Baylor wanted to shove his head into a snowbank.  I said OK, so he did.

I decided I wanted a more comfortable seat in the kitchen, the bench gets to be pretty hard to sit on. So, Mom and I hit all the local, to her, used furniture and thrift stores trying to find one that would suit, fit, and be affordable.  We had a lovely time together but struck out.

But we had a delicious dinner at her house before I headed home!! YUM!!

It was a beautiful drive home, early evening with the snow.

I love the bottle tree in the snow.  The blue bottles are my favorite.

Kate sent me some photos of baby Roxie.  She is so cute with her big head and stand up ears.  All grown up she has a tiny head with stand up ears.  I am so glad we have her!!

Her foster sister Ellen.

That face!!!

So after 11 years, I finally finished a project!! (I have a quilt in a box in the basement that I started when I was in college so I have older projects). I realized that I was not doing the decrease correctly on the back half and just went with it when I did.  It is a unique shape for sure but it is done and he loved it.

Roxie likes to eat the fresh snow.  That is what she does first.

The snow built up on the bottles. Thankfully it never fell over.

I love our little village covered in snow.

Baylor tested well enough to join the Academic Bowl team for the fourth grade. It is a kind of triva how much do you know event. They had practices early before school going over trivia and other tidbits that could come up in the bowl.  He was so excited about it.  All the elementary schools in the district had teams and we meet at the district office for the competition.  There were five students on the team but only four participated in each round.  Baylor was lucky to be in each round.  He answered the first question for his team and did well answering through out.  I could see for the most part the kids were pretty nervous and often would hesitate when they thought they had the answer.  Then the other team had time to buzz in and answer.  The lost both rounds, one to the team that ended up winning he whole bowl.  One of their students was a natural and racked up 135 points at 5 points each and we were barely on the scoreboard.  Even the rest of his team really did not get to answer anything because he knew so much.

The second round was much closer at 30 to 35.  They were sad to lose but I was so proud of them for participating.

Roxie found a safe place to chew on her bone. Jake will not go past me to get to her if he decided he wanted whatever she had.  Mommy keeps her baby girl safe!!

And I find something for Jake to have for himself.

I love Baylor's friends especially when they are just as silly as us.

Gloria found a loveseat on Craigslist over in Red Lion. She picked it up for us and it was only $60.00!  It is in good shape and fits perfectly.  The color is not a good choice for us so a slip cover is in the future.  But everyone loves it.  Much more comfortable than the bench, which now lives at the dining table.

A good reminder to keep moving forward.

We helped celebrate Kartkey's birthday with pizza and cake at his house on the evening of his birthday.  We are so thankful their friendship and love spending time with them.  The boys still rough house and horse around.  It is not all video games!

They are also very close to their neighbors and they joined us to celebrate.  Their son is four but the boys are good with him.  The cake was from the Pennsylvania Bakery and looked very nice, until the boys got their hands on it.

Akshat believes one should lite a candle for one's birthday, not extinguish one.  We did both to honor both traditions.

And then the frosting started going on like war paint and it was downhill, in a fun way, from there.

And then back at home, Roxie tried to poke her way through Baylor by landing on him from above.  He was not happy about that at all.  She stabbed in the arm with her front paw.

The sleepy doodles.

I found a cheap slipcover at Ollies, but it is so ill fitting that I will need to spend more money on a slip cover than I did on the loveseat!

Baylor's sleep in Saturday morning with Jake on the top bunk.

Another pizza night.  Baylor does love pizza night.  And so do I.  We get time in he kitchen together and a tasty meal.

The snow melted and revealed a meadow of yellow.

We had a lovely spring day and I cleaned up months of dog poop!

Jake was all comfy on the loveseat, warm and snuggly.

Our friend, it has a been a bit since we say you.

The geese were crossing the road to my office.  Thankfully, everyone made it across.

Just gorgeous!

March 20th, this happened.  Dad took me to the hospital at 6 in the morning, and once they took me back, he headed home.  He arrived the night before not feeling well and needed to go back to bed. Gloria and Mom arrived after they dropped Baylor off at school.  I was out of there by 11 and home at noon.  Dr King told them it was an easy repair, what he did not say was it was a massive tear.  But he sewed it all together and I was one my way to recovery.  It was seven weeks from the day I fell on January 29th to when I had surgery.  I was not feeling any pain due to a nerve block and meds.

Gloria bought an electric recliner and I was thankful she did.  I was not so thankful at 1:00 in the morning when the nerve block and pain killers wore off.  I was taking the pain meds but had been sleeping for a bit when it all hit.  It was horrible.  But I fell back to sleep by 2:00 and was more comfortable by morning.  I spend the most of the next two days on the recliner.  Thursday Dad went to urgent care and was diagnosed with the flu.  Friday, Mom went to urgent care and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Saturday afternoon Dad took Gloria to urgent care and she had the flu as well.  Baylor and I thankfully did not get sick while everyone was falling apart around us.

Saturday morning Dad drove me to CC to pick up the dogs.  They had been there since Tuesday so we would not have to worry about me taking care of them right after surgery.  I was happy to see them for sure.

And they were happy to be home.

Saturday we removed the bandages.  I had a plastic wrap kind of bandage over everything which was weird but kept any leaking contained.

Just four small incisions and a bruise on my neck from where the did the nerve block.  My arm was sore and stiff but I was not feeling much pain. I stopped taking the prescription meds on Friday and just took Tylenol as a precaution.

I had to wear the sling 23 hours out of the day and the worst of it was the prickly heat on my inner arm and elbow and arm stiffness from being bent all the time.  We cut the sleeves off an old long sleeved shirt and put that on my forearm first and then in the sling.  That seemed to help with the prickly heat rash.

Jake on duty, protecting us from everything possible.

Since I was sleeping in the living room on the recliner, Baylor often slept on the couch to be close to me.  And sometimes Jake joined him on the same couch.

Grandma was sick too so she napped on the couch during the day while I sat in the recliner.

The dogs were good company for me.  Neither of them whacked my shoulder, which was a good thing!

Jake can be jerk but when he is chill, he is chill.  I loved how his lips are all floppy!

I was not able to drive until I was out of the sling so Mom, Dad, Gloria, and Paula hauled me around. Mom had to drive the minivan for the first time.  She did just fine!  Mom and Dad stayed with us for almost three weeks and I was so thankful for them and all their help.

And thankful for the time they got to spend with Baylor.  They dropped him off and picked him up from school while they were at the house since I was not going to work. I was off for eight days but was bored by the fifth day.

We noticed Jake was licking his paw a lot and found out he broke his nail.  The only thing I could think of was he got it caught between the slats on the patio table.

My sweet potato.  I just love Roxie.

Baylor loves both of the dogs and couldn't resist giving Jake a cuddle.

Roxie spent a lot of her time on the ottoman sitting next to me recliner. She was good company.

She also became attached to Dad and shared her special kind of love with him.  The special kind where she paws at you or stands on you for attention.

We we out to eat at a Mexican restaurant in Gettysburg for lunch and it was delicious.

Baylor and Dad did a little garden brush burning together.  It was hard weeding with one arm but it needed done. And the two pyros got to play in the fire.

Jake loves to lay in the sun.  He will stay outside for hours.

After the aconites, the daffodils bloom.  Spring starts off in yellow in my gardens!!
