Memorial Day weekend was planned and packed full of events. Baylor was invited to join Joey and Landon at Hershey Park for opening day of their water park. It was a miserable hot day and great for going to the water park. I stayed at home and got our back yard Summer ready. And myself ready for the sun and the heat. Dorky hat but kept my face from burning.
I set up the canopy for some shade over the table. After all these years I am a pro at setting it up by myself.
The pool pad was a bit more of a challenge. I had to haul over six bags of sand and cut the pavers into halves. It was so hot and there is no shade in the middle of the yard. I worked for about a half hour and had to take a break.
It was all fun a games until I disturbed the several ant mounds under all the bricks. I had to weed and reset them all and several areas had ant families happily going about their life under the bricks. I put down ant bait when it was all done. They are hard to see but they are everywhere.
I had not broken down and turned on the AC yet but Grimm was already done with the heat. He was laying stretched out on his back but rolled over when I came to take a photo.
Sunday we had plans to go to Lauren and Meghon's for their lunch party. Baylor was not looking forward to it so I asked him pretty late in the morning if he wanted to try the flea market for some Lego figures. That perked him up of course and thankfully the Lego guy was there. He picked out a Captain America Civil War set (he saw the movie on Friday with Gloria) and a few other odds and ends in super heroes and Star Wars (Chewbacca and BB8) And the guy said he should have Jabba and Boba Fett in a few weeks so we will be back again. I bought a huge tin of buttons for $5 and some Nag Champa incense. It is my summer scent!
We went to the girl's house and were there an hour after is started. Going to market put me behind but it was worth it. I brought a bunch of games and bubbles because I was not sure who would be there and if I had to entertain Baylor the whole time I needed something to do. Lauren's youngest brother is 9 and Baylor and him got along very well. They played badminton and baseball. I don't think they tried the bead bag toss but some other friends did. I busted out the croquet set too and played two rounds; one with the boys and another the bean bag players.
The other kids, 18 to 25ish, were playing beer pong and they were teaching some of the younger kids, the 18 yos, how to play. They ended up teaching the young ones as well. The water basketball not the drinking game though. Baylor really enjoyed that game. I said if he keeps it up by college he will be a pro.
Then they got to throw the water at Kerick, who graduates from Temple in two weeks. He was teaching his younger sister Klaudia how to play because she wanted to learn (the 18 yo). The boys loved throwing the water at him just as much as the water basketball.
Monday was planned to set up the new pool and I asked my dad to help me because he and I work better together than Gloria and I do. We got it set up in less than the 90 minutes the booklet said and there was no cursing or tempers. Other than Baylor who got upset that I was not paying attention to him and went on a hunger strike later. And he was mad because the pool was not going to be filled later in the day so he could swim. Patience is not something my grasshopper possesses.
After he decided he was ready to eat (we were all done and all the food was put away) he ate well, we went outside to check the progress of the water in the pool. We needed some water in the bottom to keep it from collapsing and to get the wrinkles out. He wanted to see inside (it is a 48 inch pool and the last one was 42, he cannot see inside this one). I lifted him up and over and he loved it. I know how to make him happy again, even in a few inches of water. He did help me work out the wrinkles on the sides and he played in there for quite some time while I hooked up the filter systems.
After he was out a changed in to dry clothes and Mom and Dad had left, I walked around the house to see what flowers were blooming. The Siberian Iris is the purple flower (white ones are in the front of the house and I keep forgetting to dig some up and mix them together.) and the Robinson's Red Daisy is in front. I love the daisy and wish it would spread out more.
It is so beautiful.
And the Oriental Poppies are in bloom as well. I love their black centers.
I bought a new bottle tree on Saturday and started putting my bottles on it and it is pretty empty. The old one was much smaller. I guess I need to get to drinking. Thankfully the mineral water at Wegmans comes in blue bottles!! The evil spirits are especially attracted to blue and I certainly do not need them around.
The front of the house is blooming primarily white right now. We did not do too much to celebrate the real reason for Memorial Day, but we did enjoy a family day with my parents.
