The new canopy was supposed to be blue, like the old one.  It is very black, not what I was looking for.  Oh well, it is up and a done deal.

Baylor and I made Japanese fried rice for dinner and ate out on the patio.  He wanted to sit at his picnic table.  

We filled up and planted up his garden box.  He as been picking out flowers since May anytime we go anywhere with plants. It was beyond time to get them in the ground.  I put two layers of cardboard down and three bags of dirt to fill it up.  

He first went with a single line of plants but I suggested in my best Mom tone that maybe he should moved them out a bit to make room.

He took my advice and moved them around a bit to his liking and then I dug holes and filled them in with plants.  He moved his mantis garden art to his plot and watered everything well.  Another thing to mow around but it is a good thing.

Baylor was going for a hair cut after camp today.

He looks amazingly handsome!  And he knows it, because I tell him so all the time.  Maybe I should stop, he did say, "I don't think anyone looks as good as me." 

We had a bad storm roll in north of us. It was much darker than the photo shows but it was moving along the river. 

And an hour after the warning expired, it was blue skies and puffy clouds. 

We met for dinner at Tokyo Diner, Baylor's favorite food so far in his seven years.  Dinner with these two.... 

And he loves the salad with the ginger dressing.  Love this handsome little guy.

Another early morning but today I made Rolo blondies for the beach trip.  Julie and Amy love the blondies I make and I think the Rolos will be a nice touch.  

Sadly when I cut into this, it was way underbaked and I had to pitch it.  I had caramel bites and chocolate chips in the next batch.

Mother's Day Road Trip with Mom

For Mother's Day I gave Mom a coupon for a Mother and Daughter Road Trip for whenever she wanted to go. Dad would take Baylor the day and she could decide where we were going.  She first wanted to go to the beach of course but talked herself out of it.  Then she thought about Baltimore, IKEA, and Trader Joe's.  And then apparently I said something when I came home from Tara's the last time about all the places I would love to stop at but don't because I have Baylor with me.  She thought that sounded like fun so that is what we planned.  They came up early in the morning and we left around 9:30.  Dad and Baylor already headed to Heather's campground for the day, which was better than them sitting around the house all day.

Our first stop was in Luckett's at the yard art place about 15 minutes from Tara's. The plan was to hit all the places on the right side of the street in the direction we were heading.  Even though there is an antique store across the street, we were going to have to do that on the way home.  The house is old and was fun to walk around in but really nothing I would want. 

But outside was some fun and amazing items. The sharks were cool. 

And the giant catfish was amazing.  Nothing had prices and I hate asking so I saved a lot of money!  

Then we stopped at a farmer's market.  I picked up some VA peanuts for Dad and a horseradish dip mix.  It was a nice stand but I did not want to pick up any perishables until we were headed north. See the barn across the street?  Stopping there on the way home!  

I drove to Tara's but sadly they had plans and were not home.  I picked up a ladder and we drove down to Tara's dad's home to show Mom.  We broke the right side of the road rule and stopped at this place. It was on the left side as we headed north but was worth walking around.  

After that we headed into town to find a place to eat.  We stumbled across a block with a lot of places and picked one Tuscarora Mill.  I texted Tara where we were and she said her brother worked there.   We did not get anything from the bar and I don't know if he was working while we were there but it was a nice lunch with Mom. 

We drove out through the older part of Leesburg and headed to the big antique shops across from the farm stand.  There are three buildings there and by the time we were done, we were both antiqued out. Mom's hips were hurting and she was hot, which she totally does not like to be.  If I had a million dollars and a new house to decorate, I could have dropped some money at one of the shops.  But I know Gloria does not want me dragging more stuff home and our house is pretty full as it is.  And I don't have a million dollars.

 I do love the Subway style signs.  I would have more of them if I could.  

I made another stop at another farm stand to buy some veggies for dinner. I left Mom in the van with the AC running and when I put the veggies in the van I asked if she would like to cool off with and ice cream cone.  I taught her to ask for a single scoop split cone  We never stopped at the store across the street in Lucketts because we were done looking as we were not really shopping.  I also talked myself out of stopping at a BBQ place in MD and just headed home to cook for the family.  Dad and Baylor got home 10 minutes before we did and Gloria got home almost an hour later. By that time I had made two pork tenderloins, heated some smoked ribs, grilled the zucchini, yellow squash, and bell pepper I bought in VA along with some onions. Boiled the red potatoes and steamed the corn.  It was a nice family dinner after and wonderful family day! 

Round Up

It is the first day of Summer ya'll.  While Summer is not my favorite season, I do enjoy it while it is happening.  S.U.M.mer Camp at COF is participating in the church's vacation bible school so this week is going to be a bit different for him.  

When we got home he spied a baby mantis.  I asked him to put his finger by it as a size reference and he kept jerking it away when the mantis would look at his finger.  

Then he went in for a closer look.  How tiny is that little bug!  

I spent my lunch hour, two hours in fact, upgrading to a new phone with a much better camera.  We went swimming and took a few selfies before hand.  I won't post the lovely full body shots Baylor took of me.  Not pretty.

When we got home we picked black raspberries.  I get about a handful and usually give most of them to Baylor.

A Facebook memory from three years ago when we took Dad to MD for Father's Day dinner. 

The lilies are blooming and the pink and yellow are so pretty.  This plant was from a bulb purchased at the grocery store on clearance.  It has multiplied every year and I have moved babies to other parts of the garden.  It was a good purchase! 

The clematis growing on the fence gate wants to cross over to the other side of the gate.  Then we would not be able to use the gate so I am teaching it how to dangle.  I am not sure it will like it but so for it is cooperating.

The storm clouds were moving in as I left work.  No swimming tonight I am afraid.

I had summer hours today, my only one this summer.  We get to leave at 1 if our work is caught up and nothing is pending for our back ups to take care of.  It was a quiet morning and I was able to leave at 1 and go shopping of course.  I headed across the river to the Sharp Shopper, the Christmas Tree Shop, an Asian Market, and the Restore Store.  On my way to the last stop I was stilling at the light and noticed a train that was not going to stop me this time!  It was fun doing some shopping and exploring while Baylor was swimming at the pool at Little Buffalo State Park. 

The hollyhocks came with the house but and reseed every year.  Love them. 

Even though he spent the day at the pool, as soon as he got home he wanted to go swimming.  He brought out the gator. 

And I showed him the shark I bought earlier today.  He loved it.
