Camping Thursday Part One

Thursday morning Mom was not feeling very well so we left her inside to rest while we played outside.  I bought another large bubble wand because the last one bit the dust last year as it was being used for everything except bubbles.  We only had a small container of the super bubble mixture which is what you need for the big wand so once we were out, we were done with the big bubbles.

Dad and Ute played catch with a tennis ball and Velcro paddles while Baylor broke all the bubbles he could.  He would get mad at me when the wind would blow them too high or the wrong direction like it was my fault. I have Super Mommy Powers but not that super.  But for now he believes I do and I will let him and continue to apologize when I blow them in the wrong direction.

And then he had to pee.  And being a boy, he found the forest and let it go. At least this time his hiney was not showing.

Then Dad, Ute, Baylor and I went for a drive so Mom could get some more rest.  Our destination was another state park Worlds End and we took a trip up a mountain to see the view.

While it was pretty, and Dad said it is really gorgeous in the fall, it was not very interesting for Baylor.

We had a jump rope along with us (which is never used a jump rope) and he used it to climb the rocks along that path.  Now that was fun stuff!

Across the road was the bathroom (think non-flushing again) and I saw a sign for something I thought would interest him.  So we headed up the path to see the Rock Garden.  It was not very far up to the top of the mountain.

The rope came in handy climbing the rocks.  See how secure it is there on the rock?  Totally keep him from falling down right?

The rock garden was huge rocks/boulders, I am sure they were at least nine feet plus high.  We climbed up the one side, walked across, and down the other side and then down the mountain.

We headed to the maid part of the park but on the way Baylor was voguing for me.

I am pretty sure Worlds End Park is the one I remember going to with my grandparents and the inspiration for my going camping with Baylor and my parents.  I remember swimming in a creek with big rocks.  And this creek certainly has plenty of rocks.  Where ever it was we were swimming was much deeper and not fast moving because I do not remember having to fight being washed down stream.  The park was hit during the huricanns that blew through two years ago and there was still a lot damage showing and trees washed everywhere.  But today was beautiful and Baylor had fun playing by the water.  We did not get to stay too long because Ute and Dad were getting hungry for lunch but it was enough to make Baylor happy and ready to go when I asked him to.  My pockets were full of rocks from the creek to add to our gardens.

We headed back and through a covered bridge in Forksville that survived the flood.

And stopped at the same store we stopped at two years ago on one of our road trips.  They are less a general store now and more a little cafe/restaurant in the middle of no where.

The covered bridge from the other bridge down river.  Apparently this whole area was under water two years ago.

While we were driving along we passed a farm with a loss calf!  Not something you see every day that is for sure.

Thankfully someone on the farm saw him running away from us and hopefully got off his mower to get him in his pen.

Baylor crashed out in the car on the way back to camp.  It was one of the few naps he had all week and was not very long but well needed for the rest of our day.  We stopped at Dushore again at the IGA this time for a few things including more strawberries.  Baylor was eating fruit all the time (which is a good thing of course) but we were running out of fruit all the time.

to be continued......

Camping Wednesday

Wednesday morning it was still cool but no real rain falling.  We all walked to the beach but only Mom, Baylor and I stayed as it was quite cool and breezy on the water.  Since I was there for Baylor's enjoyment, I was willing to be a bit cold as long as he was fine and having fun.  He can tolerate the cold as long as he is not tired and having more fun than the cold is bothersome.  I brought a fun bag with us of course.  We had the nets, viewing container for creatures, a bucket, and bubbles of course.  What is a trip the to lake without bubbles I ask you?

Mom had the camera and was taking the photos. I hate being on this side of the camera but it is all good in the end.

He did not wade in to far but my water boy cannot stay out of water for long.

We walked down the beach a bit but there were no creatures to catch, not even minnows or anything.

After that the three of us went on another trail that was off the cabin road.  Near the top of the square in the middle of the map is a small blue cabin.  That is where we were. The dashed line is the trail we started out on.

See the stick? I think there was always a stick involved all week.  This one he and I played a step on the stick game.  Once I stepped on the stick, it was my turn to have him chase the stick.  The difference is I made it hard for him and he would put the stick right in front of me to step on.  He is very thoughtful that way.  When we play hide and seek, he will wave or hollar out where he is hiding to make it easier for me to find him.  And it does not ruin the fun for him either.  I love that about him.

This trail lead to several trails. Baylor made sure I was prepared with his umbrella and while it was mere sprinkle he felt he needed to be protected.

We went down to to where these two trails meet and walked a bit of both.  And by a bit, I mean a few hundred feet.  Mom has hip problems if she walks too long.

The trail split at the point on the map that shows Dam Breast.  I do not know the history of the dam but it is no longer holding back any water.

We walked a bit down the Mountain Springs Trail that ran along the water way.  We did not go very far.

I played with camera settings to see if I could change the effects. Nothing crazy of course, I rarely take time for photo editing.

But we took photos to prove that Mom was there.  Neither of us are big on exercise but I am better and plowing on than she is.  Baylor will keep moving as long as he is having fun.  But Mom did really well.

After the walk we had lunch and while that was going on, I heated some rocks in the fire.  I bought glitter and metallic crayons and showed him how to color the hot rocks.  He was very good at not touching the rocks ad just coloring them.

We let the pile cool off for several hours and he was very proud of his work.  He took one to school this week to show his teacher.

I love making camp pies with butter, bread, and pie filling but I brought some pie dough to try making a real pie.  It worked out very well we all decided.
