I made one more invitation character and I had to go to Home Depot for some white paint chips. All invites were mailed or delivered so now the party planning and preparation has begun.
But of course there are several Fall traditions to do such as the Apple Festival (Festibul as Baylor says). Of course he was excited to ride the school bus again.
We visited our friends Larry, Sally and Michelle at their booth first. We love seeing them and we love when their booth is too busy for them to talk because that is good for their business. I took Baylor outside when he was getting too antsy to be around all the vendors. He found a nice hat for winter and wore it off and on the rest of the day. He really loves his superheros right now and I know Spiderman will have fun in the snow this year.
This is one place he remembers and of course he remembers all the stuff he likes to do. If it were just him and I, I would let him jump hay bales until his legs wore down to stubs. But we were with my parents and I knew until Mom tired out we had to keep moving.
And he does not let up telling me where he wanted to go, which was the hay pile first. He built a nice pile of hay. And while he was building a little girl kept rolling over it. He got really p***ed about it and threw down his hay and wanted to leave. I made him roll in it at least once because he had worked so hard on it anyway.
Since we were waiting for my parents to come back from shopping we had to stay in the area. Thankfully they had kids games in the building by the hay play ground. I think I will be adding a few of these to the Halloween party. First he tried the hoop-around-the-scarecrow game.
And then the canning jar-ring-toss.
\He actually landed one too.
The woven-paper-plate-holder-toss-in-the-bucket game. Nailed that one too.
Spongeball-in-the-apple-toss.
Ball-in-the-tall-bucket toss.
Ball-in-the-basket game. (basketball the old fashioned way)
Swish.
Ball-toss.
Ball-toss in the wooden box with some help from Buddy.
Then it was a quick pet of the farm animals.
A squat on the old fire engine with another little firefighter.
Photo-op taken by in instassistant Mom who cannot frame a photo very well. I guess I will need to give her lessons if she wants to continue in her position.
Crazy Baylor waiting for the hay ride.
Still crazy on the hay ride.
We wove our way around the vendors to find some lunch, ice cream and kettle corn. Then it was off to ride Holly this year. He was a great little rider as usual.
By now Mom was starting to complain about her hips so we took a break under a canopy while Buddy looked at the vintage cars. We have been at the festival in the cold, in drizzle, and cool seasonal weather. This day was in the 80's and just hot for an apple festival. It was a nice break to sit in the shade and drink water for a bit. Baylor lept from hay bale to hay bale and loved it.
On the way out we stopped at the photo area for this year's shots.
We walked over to look at the tractors and try to get some fresh roasted peanuts. Mom and Baylor sat in the grass while Dad and I waited for the peanuts to come out of the roaster. We got the third bags so their were super hot and still roasted soft. They were delicious but even better when the cooled and dried out. The bus ride to the car lot was just as fun the second time.
Mom and Day did not stay to long. Their dog was at the sitters for the day but they wanted to get home to him. We sent them home with a bunch of our decorative corn.
We grew more of this corn than sweet corn so we did not have much to eat from the garden this year. But these are really pretty corn and worth it.
The rest of the afternoon was spent with Baylor playing with Natalie and Vanessa while I took down the potato garden and harvested the potatoes. I moved some dirt to fill in a low spot where Lori had a maple tree removed. And when they had to go home for dinner, Riley came over. Since they wanted to race around the loop, I had to sit outside and watch for cars. It was fun to sit and take photos of Baylor taking his pedal tractor around the loop, pedaling mad the whole way.
Then Riley raced him with the four wheeler.
And still beat her. Granted the four wheeler was wearing down and needed a battery change.
The sled is often tied to some vehicle but today it was a resting place. It was another 'summer' day in fall and he needed breaks from the heat.
Because there were more races to be run.
And assisting others going uphill.
Eventually they filled the wading pool and let the sponge bombs fly. They had a lot of fun and I am glad he has his neighbors to play with.
The girls came back but were not allowed to get wet so they did not stay long.
And then it was back to drenching each other.
It was a wonderful day for everyone!
