Ocho de Mayo and Field Day

So Cinco de Mayo was moved to Ocho so I delayed making my dessert until the end of the week.  The tamales went into the freezer at work on Monday.  I made a Chocoflan which turned out super tasty and delicous.  Tamela was surprised I made tamales and said they were pretty good for my first attempt.  I'll take that!  

After work Gloria, Baylor and I headed to the other elementary school for the Spring Field Day.  We were there pretty early and I had to drop off the cake and cookies first thing.  No one was around but a high school student so we figured the table in the back with other cakes and cookies (mostly store bought!) we figured that was the right place.  I had pre-bought some tickets but we didn't know how many we would need. We ended up buying a lot more!  But Baylor enjoyed himself, especially on the velco wall.  He was not tall or strong enough to bounce very high but he could get up high enough to get stuck.  

Caden's Mom was on the first shift at the football toss game so I offered to take him with me to have them play on a few of the more fun things to do with a friend!  The did a regular bounce house and then wanted to do the battle house.  Baylor really never let Caden get up before knocking him down again.  

But I think they both had fun bashing each other.  

When we walked back to the football toss to wait for Caden's Dad and my turn to (wo)man the booth at 6 to 6:45.  Baylor got the football through the hoop on the first try.  Each player had three chances to get the ball through the hoop and if they did, they received a ticket.  I believe there was a prize table they could turn in the tickets for prizes but I never left the station to find out.  Gloria walked Baylor around to the other games and I took care of the football toss.  Caden's mom had to high school assistants but they were done at 6:00 also.  Leigh Ann stayed and helped for a bit but I shooed her off to go with her husband and sons to enjoy her time with them.  Mandy helped for about 10 mintues too but it was OK when I was alone.  I would tell the kids if they threw it too far they would have to fetch it.  Some kids were OK with fetching or had a friend help with that.  Or they were careful how far they threw it!  

I was on duty until 6:45 and Ginnie was to take over until 7:30 when it was over.  Since Gloria and Baylor were already gone I stayed to help her until it was over.  We got a bit crazy with the tickets and would give three to anyone who could get all three balls through the hoop.  One boy used us a his wringer and played over and over again. We saw later he turned his tickets in for a blow up microphone!  Other than a sunburned forehead, it was a lot of fun.  Especially nice that Gloria was with us and took care of Baylor when I had to be a good volunteer!  

When we got home I unpacked his backpack and found his Mother's Day projects. The COF teacher asked if we wanted him to do two projects (for each Mom) and I said no, he does not need to do double work.  He made one book and included both of us.

This page was the tear jerker for me.  He said it all, hearts and all.  

Me:  to play video games.  Ever since we hooked up the WiiU and bought the Lego games, I love being able to play with him.  He is a much better player than I am but I am good a wracking up coins so he can buy new characters.

Just Another Night of Fun

Nearly every day when I pick Baylor up at COF, there is a pile of airplanes on the floor under his backpack.  Some fly, some don't, there are singles and some doubles of two planes stacked and taped together.  They come in all sizes as well.  Tonight after homework he wanted to make some more planes so we both set out folding paper.  While I was working on a cake for the Spring Fair he made an itty, bitty, tiny plane.  Pretty small folding for those chubby fingers!  And pretty impressive as well!  

I signed up for cookies and a cake for the cake/cookie walk.  I made snickerdoodles at Baylor's request but the cake was up to me.  It is a boxed white cake with blue cotton candy frosting (I made that myself with cotton candy sugar) and cotton candy sprinkles.  

Since it had to travel, I put it on a Dollar Store plate and used paper umbrellas to keep the cling film from sticking to the frosting. Baylor wanted to lick the cake!  I guess I should make him one some day. 

Some Fun on Sunday as Well

Sunday was another stay at home day and we did pretty much the same stuff, sans play date.  While in the garden I found my 10th mantis egg case.  We will be crawling with babies soon!  Which is a wonderful thing to be in my opinion.  

After lunch we headed to the creek for our first trip in 2015.  We had fun in our usual ways: throwing rocks, sticks and whatever else we can find in the creek, and some splashing around.  The water is a bit high so no walking out to the other side but there was still the rocky beach area to enjoy.

He wanted to build a little dam and one of the rocks he handed to me was cover in eggs.  Not sure the creature they will become but we placed it back into the deeper water so they would not dry out.

We also gathered up a wagon load of rock for our gardens.  While we were doing that Baylor gathered up the 'litter' and asked if we could take it home.  Thankfully we did not find what was formally inside the wrapper.  

Back at home we had more water balloon fun.  If you try to make a water balloon out of a big 'air' balloon, you get a water ball for a few tosses.  

Eventually, they do break.  

Which is the whole point of them anyway!  

Tuesday is Cinco de Mayo and I planned to make chicken tamales.  Which I did but my pan was too small to steam them in so I had to use my canner.  I have never made them and never even eaten one.  I watched about 10 videos on how to make them and then made up my recipe.  Hopefully they will be OK but I am taking two in for Bob on Monday to test them out.

Saturday Fun

We had a whole day at home without any plans to go anywhere.  But we did have plans for a short play date with Ryder from COF and school.  They came over around 10:30 and only stayed about two hours.  Baylor and I used the rest of the day to enjoy the sun.  I worked on the gardens.  What an absolute mess!  Weeds everywhere and dead stems from last year tangled up in the weeds and the new Spring growth.  

Baylor played video games for a bit and when he came outside decided it was time to get out some water balloons.  So I took a break from weeding and tied up about two dozen balloons for him.  It was sunny and in the 70's which is not water fun weather for me but for him is was just fine.  The drew targets on the driveway and aimed for them with the balloons. 

He loved it and I do love spending the time with him!
