It was not raining early Saturday so I quickly mowed the grass inside the fence. Jake spent the morning outside with me and his paws were green!!
Kartikey had spent the night with us and they had to go with me to the vet at 9:30 with Grimm. He did not have any distressing signs when she felt his belly and we gave a poop sample (scraped off a paper gift bag he found to go on). They said it could be stress or any other random issue. Until the sample comes back and he starts being responsible with his elimination, he is staying in the basement. And now on anti-nausea pills for two days and antibiotics for a week. I took the boys to Oak Grove for ice cream and yummy spring rolls! When we got home, they played video games and I went outside to work.
Jake hung out with me, mostly in the yard but eventually I brought him over to the garden where I was working. He is so handsome!
With all the pallets I hauled home and cut up last fall I had a bunch of scraps and nailed up pieces. Since it was a calm day I made a fire and burned it all up! I felt like I was in my secret garden during and English spring.
The raspberry patch was overgrown and weedy as it is every spring.

And half way done! I was trimming the old canes out and weeding as I went down the patch. The red raspberries are easier to clean up than the black but I was still all scratched and scraped up.
But I had a nice fire that was actually making me sweat it was throwing off so much heat.
After lunch I took all three boys to the creek to play. It was not very sunny and really not all that warm but they boys loved it.
So did Jake. Sadly he has to be on a leash. I am still not sure he would come back easily and with the water running pretty fast he might get swept away if he got too close to the fast water. He seemed to enjoy walking around though he was a bit fast for me and I nearly wiped out on the rocks a few times.
Baylor took Kartikey to the big rock to check things out. Which meant Jake needed to follow them. Which meant I had to run with him through the woods. Which I cannot run.
There are tons of tadpoles in the pool
He wanted to walk out as far as he could so we did, a few times.
And then we discovered he would swim out to fetch a stick!! It was so much fun. He was not as obsessive about it as a good ball fetching retriever but he rarely let one go.
Neither of the boys cared how cold it was.
While they were playing Jake found a dragonfly at the edge of the water. I rescued him by putting a leaf by his feet and he grabbed onto it. I set him on the wall and noticed he was missing a wing. I don't know if Jake did that or if that had happened before. But it was fluttering the wings it had and I left it alone and wished it well. I checked on it now and then and then I turned around once and it was gone.
My view of Jake when we got home and the boys showered off to warm up and get the creek mud washed off. Then we went to the dog park for a bit and I dropped Kartikey off when his Mom got home at 5:30. Baylor did not know it yet but he was going to spend the night at Ryder's. Which he guessed when I told him I had a surprise for him. So it was a quiet night for me and a busy day on Sunday.
I had drained the pool to nearly empty so I could fix some legs that had shifted off the pads. I fixed them and then had to add more water to bring the level up enough to take off the cover. It is a lovely shade of green under there! I added more water and worked more on the garden including cleaning up the tomato area and planting most of the little pots of plants I have been picking up for the last month.
I picked up Baylor in the afternoon because Meme and Pap showed up in the afternoon. Pap likes Jake and trying to get him to hold a treat on his nose. Jake is really not that interested in that yet but Pap keeps trying.
Apparently Jake, like Eddy, likes to spend time with Pap instead of me. Hmmm
Traitor in the making!
When I would feed Eddy I would put her bowl down at the end of the island and she would pick it up and move it to the stairwell to eat. She always moved her bowl to somewhere carpeted, even in the old house. At dinner Jake did the same thing. She must be teaching him her tricks!
Monday I hosted lunch for the grandparents and Dave. Jason was not able to make it this time. Gloria had asked me to smoke a turkey, which we had in the freezer from last fall. I think she wanted me to use the new smoker a co-worked had given us but I am not familiar with the style and did not want to risk an entire turkey. Which turned out wonderfully smoked on my 13 year old charcoal grill.
We had a full table at lunch and it was wonderful.
I made cheesecake with Stevia for dessert with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream. Yum!
After lunch Baylor decided he wanted to swim in the pool. I hooked up all the filters and had them running but had not started adding any of the start up chemicals. It was filled up a bit more but was cold and green. Gloria had bought him swim fins and he really wanted to try them out.
Jake was a bit too interested for me to walk away.

The temptation was too much and in he went. He looked a bit panicked when he could not touch bottom so I had Baylor guide him back to the ladder and I was on the other side to help him up.
The pool ladder will always have to be up or out of the pool now. I cannot loose my dog like we lost birds in the fountain last summer. (which I fixed this year with bricks and rocks piled up so they could get out if they went swimming)
